even if not something i would recommend for every single monster. and it let to this really "slide, aim, slide, aim" where i felt like i was some weird sliding tank, which then i tried with a different gun and tweaked things around with slide extender and some other skills and mods and it ended being rather fun and it worked decently in the end. like everyone likes the recoil 2/normal reload run and gun since it is easy to use.īut other day for example i was toying with a gun that had some other things i found interesting but i couldn't make the ammo i wanted to be recoil-2, so i just went "♥♥♥♥ it" and tried with 3 anyway. you can end with some really interesting ways to move around and play. Not you have the 5 main ammo types that all make you aim differently, but if you willing to experiment with the recoil and reload or not. Now i wont say they are all viable for meta builds (but then you should play as you want, as long the monster is dying you are not carting everything is fine in my book) I never touched HBG but i play a lot with LBG and one interesting part of it is how much variation you can have with a single weapon type if you are wanting to toy around while progressing thru the game, you can end having a lot of fun playing around. Since your ammo-mod-recoil-reload are locked with weapon, you're being force to spray different ammo to do more damage at start, where a completed build can allow you fire only 1 kind of ammo -> normal/ spread/ piercing build in mid to late game.

Then later I started a new character with LBG to see how it grow, then I found out guns have a reverse learning curve - due to how limited you are, tactics you don't use in mid to late game became a must at the start, that explain why the "spray cans" happened. I pick up BGs to toy with as a secondary weapon choice after completing my gear progression, so the BG stuff are skipped to the end builds at the beginning. Guns have a reverse learning curve from a little experiment of mine:

We dont expect too much player skill from a new player, and your early gears are doom to be weak, therefore I can foreseen a very scuffed path in your game-play. The issue on ranged is how it have zero weapon system for you to abuse, they rely heavily on skills of both the gear & weapon AKA builds, and how gud you are as a player. Most of the time we recommend any new ones to pick a melee one to learn, try&error with the game first, then hop on a ranged with the knowledge and gear as a secondary weapon, or even the main. If you're that 'new' new player neither is recommending. but is new to MHW as I have yet to hunt the Anjanath on my main quest.
